President Obama Reaches Deal With University Presidents

Jun 06, 2012

New York Times – It’s not the big student loan deal everyone is hoping for, but the White House and university presidents have reached a deal on President Obama’s proposed “shopping sheet.” This deal is designed to make financial aid offers easier to understand by outlining a student’s cost of college after grants and scholarships are awarded. It will also provide an estimate for monthly student loan payments following graduation. The shopping sheet goes into effect in the fall of 2013. For more, read Deal Reached on Student Loans.

RSC is in favor of making financial aid packages easier to read, but reminds students that this does not mean the college will offer them good financial aid. It also doesn’t mean students will know their cost at a college prior to applying since the shopping sheet only applies after they’ve been accepted. For an example of how you can get accurate college-cost estimates, download the Your Total Cost of College pdf.
