Country’s Largest School Districts Shrinking
Jul 24, 2012New York Times – Major urban school districts are shrinking at a pace not seen since the 1970s. Such schools expect to receive less money for students since funding is allocated on a per student basis. The reasons for the shrinking districts include the troubled real estate market, the growth of charter schools, and immigration crackdowns. Schools are expected to continue to lay off teachers, stop electives and reduce class offerings. This could affect college prep programs, as well.
