New York Times – Major urban school districts are shrinking at a pace not seen since the 1970s. Such schools expect to receive less money for students since funding is allocated on a per student basis. The reasons for the shrinking districts include the troubled real estate market, the growth of charter schools, and immigration crackdowns.
