Online Education Equals Classroom Education in New Study
May 29, 2012Inside Higher Ed – A new study from non-profit Ithaka reveals that online education is as bad as its critics make it out to be. Students randomly chosen to participate in statistics courses taught by interactive learning online software at six public universities did just as well as those who took professor-led classes. While students found online learning more boring than traditional lectures, they learned just as much and at a lower cost. This study is likely to be used by universities as a cost-cutting measure to indicate the academic soundness of online learning. Such cuts could not only transform education, but make it more affordable for students and open universities to a wider audience. For more, read Score One for the Robo-Tutors.
