Study Says US Has Best Higher Education System
May 22, 2012Huffington Post – America’s K-12 system might be struggling in the worldwide rankings, but higher education is still number one, at least according to a new study published by Universitas 21. The organization studied 20 different metrics, including public and private investment, access, graduation rates and diversity, in 48 countries. One major factor ignored by the study is the cost of college, where the United States ranks poorly. The United States did not finish first in every category, but achieved an overall rating of number one. The US finished fourth in government spending, third in access to education for women, 35th in international student enrollment and first in articles published by professors. The top five countries in order are the United States, Sweden, Canada, Finland and Denmark. India, Indonesia, and South Africa are the bottom three.
