States Cutting Funding for College Remedial Education
Jul 19, 2012Huffington Post – Ohio became the 22nd state to eliminate funding for remedial classes on college campuses. More than 40% of college students currently require such classes to be able to complete college-level work. Remedial education began in the 17th-century, but was strengthened in the United States over the past 50 years. Education reform activists argue that the system needs to reformed not eliminated, as this could lead to an even higher college dropout rate.
