Administration Attempts to Improve College Graduation Rates

CBS News – The Obama administration is bringing renewed focus to its goal to make America number one in college graduation by 2020. Proposals on the table include reforming state and local education policies (like providing performance funding to schools/programs that work), incentives to help students graduate in 4 years instead of 5 or 6, and restructuring large introductory classes at state schools. The administration is currently meeting with college presidents to put other ideas on the table. Many of the administration’s efforts focus on financial incentives because the high college tuition is the top reason students drop out but the government is hampered by large debt and little appetite in Washington to spend more.
