Education Job Cuts Lead All Sectors
May 03, 2012Bloomberg – The US education sector led the way in job cuts in April, slashing 9,027 positions, almost three times as many as the second leading sector, government, and more than twice as many education jobs as were cut in March. Education cuts are roughly two-thirds of what they were last year at this time and are not the leading sector for 2012, but they do reflect state and local difficulties in meeting budget demands. These cuts will continue to affect teacher/student and guidance counselor/student ratios (currently at 467:1, or twice the recommended number), increasing the pressure on students to seek outside help in improving their education and achieving their goals.
